The information which relates to population is a statement of facts in existence at the time appointed for the taking of the census, on the 31st July, 1886 ; ail other information relating to products refers to the period of twelve months immediately preceding that date.This report is accompanied by tables giving ratios, between-districts, of population and products ; also by a comparative statement of the two Censuses of 1881 and 1886, showing the progress made by the Province during these five years"--Introd., p.
