"This report is the first of a series giving final population figures from the 1945 Census of Newfoundland. The tables herein show the population of Newfoundland according to districts and settlements without further classification except by sex. Other reports to follow in this series will give the population of Newfoundland classified by such subjects as age, marital status, religion, birthplace, literacy and schooling, etc. Several historical tables have been included in this report to compare the 1945 results with available data from earlier censuses ... These tabulations have been carried out in the Dominion Bureau of Statistics at the request of Newfoundland"--Pref.
