Classification of occupations : national registration, 1940 / Department of National War Services.: CS12-506B/1940E-PDF
“In the National Registration of 1940, inquiries were made of each person of 16 years or over concerning the occupation followed at that time, the occupation usually engaged in, and any other work that the person might do well. This classification was devised to make possible the arranging of the collected data in a form readily available for the orderly placing of workers with required types of experience, skill, or training in industries vital to the prosecution of the war. This present classification of occupations is substantially an adaptation of the 1931 Census Classification of Occupations to the more detailed requirements of the National Registration. Occupation classes have been sub-divided to a greater degree of fineness, especially in the case of the skilled and specialized processes in essential war industries"--Introd., p. [7].
