Availability Explained

Where can I find Availability information?

Availability is displayed on our Publication Information Web page.

Publications that are available for order will also have a Shopping Cart displayed on both the Publication Information page and the Search Results page.

Can I limit my search to available publications?

Yes. Both the "Search Catalogue" and "Advanced Search" pages allow you to limit your search results to publications that are available for download or order. This can be achieved by selecting the checkbox labelled "View only publications available for download or order".

Availability status

Publication is available

An Availability status of "Publication is available" means that the publication is available for download or order from our Web site.

Publication is temporarily out of stock

When the Availability status is "Publication is temporarily out of stock" it means that the publication is currently on backorder and that we intend to restock it.

Your options include:

  1. Check our Web site regularly. A Shopping Cart will be displayed when the stock is replenished.
  2. Contact Customer Service to request automatic notification when the publication becomes available.
  3. Check if the publication is available in an electronic format.
  4. Check if the publication is available at a Depository Library near you.
  5. Check if the publication is available at a bookstore near you.

Publication listed for reference purposes only

When the Availability status is "Publication listed for reference purposes only" it means that the publication is not available at our Web site. The status may have been applied due to a variety of scenarios including:

  1. The author department/agency made quantities of the publication available to us for distribution to our network of Depository Libraries only. In this case, the author department/agency remains responsible for distributing the publication to anyone else who wishes to order it. Where possible, we have provided the Distribution Source (contact) information on the Publication Information page.
  2. The author department did not make copies of the publication available to us for distribution to Depository Libraries or to anyone else. In this case, we have catalogued the publication for information only.
  3. Our Catalogue of Publications includes records dated back to 1992. In some cases, the distribution information for older records was not available when we updated our system. In this case, the Availability will indicate "Publication is listed for reference purposes only".

Your options include:

  1. Check if the publication is available in a Depository Library near you.
  2. Contact the Distribution Source (if available) for further information.
  3. Search for a later edition of the publication.

Publication is no longer being published

This means that the item is no longer available for order.

Your options include:

  1. Check if the publication is available in a Depository Library near you.
  2. Search for a later edition of the publication.
