Taking action on contaminated sites : an environmental and economic priority  : En84-22/2005E-PDF

Cover image

Activities over the last century have left an environmental legacy that includes toxic waste sites, abandoned mines, contaminated military installations, leaking fuel storage depots, and other hazards to human health and the environment. The practices and activities of past years were consistent with the standards of the time and were carried out without full consideration of the environmental and health protection consequences they created. This booklet provides an overview of progress to date on initiatives to remediate federal contaminated sites and is the first in a series of updates the Government of Canada will provide to Canadians as this environmental legacy becomes an environmental and economic opportunity.
