Geochemistry of a septic-system plume in a coastal barrier bar, Point Pelee, Ontario, Canada / Carol J. Ptacek. : En13-5/97-102E-PDF

"This work was conducted as part of a larger study on the hydrogeology of the Point Pelee coastal barrier bar/wetland complex funded by Parks Canada, and by the GL2000 program. The work supports the ESD issue “Conserving Canada’s Ecosystems" (nutrients and wetlands) ... The paper describes the results of detailed chemical analyses of groundwater samples collected in 1994 from one high capacity tile bed located close to a large wetland. Analysis of data collected from a second tile bed is currently underway, High concentrations of nutrients are present in the groundwater below and down gradient of the tile bed. Elevated concentrations of nitrate and phosphate persist as far as 60 m from the tile bed. The study began late in 1993 and is expected to be complete in 1998"--Management perspective.
