"The Shubenacadie River headwater lakes are contaminated with arsenic and mercury as a result of past gold mining activities in the area. Recent studies have shown that significant amounts of arsenic are transported from one lake to another, and that levels of mercury up to 2ug/g have accumulated in some fish species. This report presents the results of the first year of an investigation into the pathways of arsenic and mercury in the lake ecosystem"--Exec. summary.
