Breeding waterfowl surveys in the Liard Plain and Teslin River Basin, northern British Columbia, 1989 / W. Nixon and J. Majiski. : CW69-5/150E-PDF

"In the spring of 1989, the Canadian Wildlife Service initiated surveys of breeding waterfowl to estimate populations in selected areas of northwest British Columbia. The secondary objective of the study was to determine the species composition of waterfowl breeding in these areas. Two study areas were chosen to represent boreal forest wetlands between 600m and 800m elevation; south of Teslin Lake in the headwaters of the Teslin River (referred to herein as the Teslin River Basin) and southwest of Watson Lake in the Liard Plain. This technical report contains a brief review of survey methodologies, and the results of breeding pair surveys conducted in northwest B.C. Total numbers and mean number of birds per wetland are presented for total birds observed as well as for indicated pairs. Breeding population estimates for the two study areas are also presented"--Background, p. 1.
