"The North Saskatchewan river is the water supply for the City of Edmonton. The City has two water treatment plants which serve a total population of 700,000. Episodes of objectionable taste and odour occur regularly in the spring. Until recently, the approach has been to treat the symptom rather than understand the cause. Partly in response to public concern over the quality of their drinking water, the City commissioned Prof. Steve Hrudey at the University of Alberta to design a detailed study of drinking water quality, including taste and odour"--Management perspective.
