By the sea - a guide to the coastal zone of Atlantic Canada. Module 7, Rocky shores / main authors, Mark Butler [and six others]. : Fs23-289/1996-7E-PDF

"By and large, rocky shores are located in high energy coastal environments. They are exposed to wind, waves, storms, tides, and currents without any protection. Rocky shores are commonly found in many parts of the Bay of Fundy, most of the Atlantic side of Nova Scotia and Cape Breton, much of the north shore of the Gulf of St. Lawrence, and almost all of Newfoundland. The daily rhythm of the tides in Atlantic Canada alternately covers and exposes an expanse of rocky shore greater than anywhere else in the world. As a result, our rocky shores provide us with the ability to observe, study, and analyze a great range of biological, ecological, and geological relationships."--page 5.
