Industrialization of narrow-front rowhousing using wall panel systems / Dr. Avi Friedman & Mr. Vince Cammalleri, McGill University, School of Architecture, Affordable Homes Program. : NH15-836/1994E-PDF

"The purpose of this study was to examine how the Grow Home can be adapted to an industrialized method of production using prefabricated panel systems, and to determine what implications this would have in terms of quality, economy and technical performance. The project included an evaluation system currently available in North America, an adaptation to the unit's design, and a cost estimate comparing prefabricated systems with conventional construction methods. Following a survey of 109 manufacturers, 9 types of panel systems were selected for evaluation based on 55 responses received. A method for evaluating prefabricated panel systems based on 34 variables was developed to assess the adequacy and suitability of the options available for a given context. The results indicated that all types of prefabricated panels could provide a level of quality which is superior to that of conventional construction, particularly in the area of energy efficiency and craftsmanship."--Abstract.
