"Recent developments in the Canadian Arctic have made it increasingly clear that our present understanding of both short and long-term consequences of oil pollution upon Arctic marine ecosystems is far from adequate . It is generally conceded that recovery from a severe ecological disturbance would be a lengthy process in the Arctic.
