"Between April 1, 1981 and March 31, 1982 the Environmental Protection Service conducted bacteriological surveys of bivalve molluscan shellfish growing waters covering 215 km of coastline in the following areas: Howe Sound, Jervis Inlet, Nelson Island, Pender Harbour, Halfmoon Bay, Buccaneer Bay, Sechelt Inlet, Ucluelet Inlet, Meares Island and Browning Passage. The surveys were conducted to classify the shellfish growing waters in accordance with federal bacteriological pollution standards for acceptable shellfish harvesting areas. Sanitary surveys were conducted concurrently to identify and evaluate the source of fecal pollution to the marine waters"--Abstract, page i.
