"During June and August 1982 and February 1983, the Environmental Protection Service conducted bacteriological surveys of bivalve molluscan shellfish growing waters in several areas of Stuart Channel, including Gabriola Island, Boat Harbour, Decourcy Island, Pylades Island, Thetis Island and Kuper Island. The surveys were conducted to classify the shellfish growing waters in accordance with federal bacteriological pollution standards for acceptable shellfish harvesting areas. Sanitary surveys were conducted concurrently to identify and evaluate the sources of fecal pollution to the marine waters"--Abstract, page i.
