The parameters of each modulator are chosen in accordance with standard design considerations to give an equivalent linearized rigid spacecraft response. The first unconstrained natural mode of vibration is used to represent the structural flexibility in the dynamic model of the spacecraft. A first order time lag is used to model the essential characteristic of the sensor. The state space region of interest is then defined, and the responses of both control systems are simulated on the NRC EAI 690 hybrid computer. A large number of initial conditions were studied. Simulation results show that in the case of the pseudo-rate controller, the state space region of acceptable performance shrinks seriously for many combinations of structural flexibility and sensor parameters. In contrast, no shrinkage at all occurred for the integral-pulse-frequency controller"--Summary, page 3.Issued also in print format.Artificial satellitesAttitude control systems.Artificial satellites in telecommunication.Flexible structures.Satellites artificielsSystèmes de commande d'orientation.Satellites artificiels dans les télécommunications.Structures flexibles.Canada. It is particularly applicable to communications satellites because of their high power demands. The nondimensional equations are first derived in Section 2, then general design considerations including practical choices of system parameters are carried out in Section 3. Equations that reveal the effects of the flexibility parameters on the switching conditions of the controller are derived in Section 4. The results obtained show in a qualitative manner how the interaction increases as the flexible appendage grows, as the unconstrained natural frequency decreases, as the damping factor decreases, and as the excitation increases. The effect of structural flexibility on fuel consumption and stability is then investigated in Sections 5 and 6"--Summary.Issued also in print format.Artificial satellitesAttitude control systems.Artificial satellites in telecommunication.Flexible structures.Satellites artificielsSystèmes de commande d'orientation.Satellites artificiels dans les télécommunications.Structures flexibles.Canada. Regulatory issues in the satellite sector have received no where near the same degree of attention as has been paid to the terrestrial sector of the telecommunications industry. In part this may reflect the relative sizes of the two sectors. It may also reflect the relatively small number of direct "stakeholders" in satellite communications (to date). In any case, there is a serious dearth of economic and public policy research in this area and there have been very few systematic efforts to identify and estimate important economic relationships affecting supply and demand conditions for satellite telecommunications"--Introduction, page 1.Issued also in print format.Telesat Canada.Télésat Canada.Artificial satellites in telecommunicationGovernment policyCanada.Satellites artificiels dans les télécommunicationsPolitique gouvernementaleCanada.Canada. The researchers explored the needs of people with cerebral palsy such as those arising from impairments in the ability to speak or write. While looking at the enormous potential of technology to improve the quality of life for many, they viewed the development of interactive behavior as central in any discussion of communication needs and concomitant to the use of technology. In an endeavour to reflect the present level of services and unmet needs in Canada, the use of questionnaires and personal interviews obtained a sample of the concerns and needs of 1) users, or potential users, of augmentative communication systems and technical aids, 2) professionals of several disciplines who work with the population, and 3) parents of cerebral palsied children and adults. Some of the needs raised and discussed, the fulfilment of which would help communication-impaired people with cerebral palsy lead a more active life in society were: early intervention and support to parents; sufficient and specially trained personnel; availability of information and resources; establishment of communication links to abolish isolation and to encourage the best possible use of the technology now available; greatly increased public awareness and action on many levels"--Abstract, page viii.Issued also in print format.Cerebral palsiedMeans of communicationCanada.Communication devices for people with disabilitiesCanada.Infirmes moteurs cérébrauxMoyens de communicationCanada.Appareils de communication pour handicapésCanada.Canada. It uses two decomposition methods to analyze the level of and changes in the between-firm average employment earnings dispersion by firm characteristics, such as productivity, globalization status (importing, exporting, foreign ownership), technology intensity, firm size, firm age, industry and geographic region. The analysis shows that the between-firm average employment earnings dispersion has been declining at an annual rate of -0.09%, as measured by the mean logarithmic deviation dispersion index. The converging earnings between frontier and non-frontier firms account for about one-third of the aggregate decline. StatistiquesrvmgfStatistique Canada. This paper uses the Canadian Employer–Employee Dynamics Database from 2001 to 2013 and shows that the overall earnings dispersion declined slightly over this time period, as the increasing dispersion in the top half of the distribution was offset by convergence in the bottom half. The increasing dispersion in the top half of the distribution is mostly attributable to the earnings of individuals in firms with 500 or more employees, while the decreasing dispersion in the bottom half occurred for workers in firms of all sizes. Evidence suggests that the rise in the minimum wage played a role in the decline in dispersion. Lastly, while both changes in earnings between industries and changes in the dispersion of productivity have an impact on the dispersion of individuals’ earnings, it has been found that the earnings dispersion within firms accounts for most of the dispersion in any given year and for all of the change across time"--Abstract.Wages and labor productivityCanadaStatistics.Statistics Canada. StatistiquesrvmgfStatistique Canada.
