The symposium programme was designed to inform participants about current research and policy objectives, constraints, and future influences on the management of marine resources, to share new developments in scientific knowledge regarding the Gulf of Maine, and to identify research priorities to meet future needs from an ecosystem-based approach. The symposium objectives were to examine what progress had been made over the past decade in implementing an ecosystem approach, to evaluate how well positioned we are to implement an ecosystem approach in the Gulf of Maine, and to propose research priorities.
