This booklet contains modern terminology for use in describing persons with disabilities and the issues that affect them. Intended to encourage and promote a fair and accurate portrayal of persons with disabilities, the booklet includes general guidelines about appropriate language and specific instructions about media coverage. A removable insert offers a selection of precise, descriptive terms to replace many of the dated and disparaging ones in current use.
