Policy and operational framework for integrated management of estuarine, coastal and marine environments in Canada: Fs77-2/2002E-IN
Sustainable management of Canada’s ocean resources depends on adopting integrated management. This means considering the ecosystem effects of the various uses made of these resources. This document describes how Fisheries and Oceans Canada plans to establish integrated management, in a way compatible with the Oceans Act and in line with Canada’s Ocean Strategy. A working document, intended to solicit discussion, this paper outlines the legislative and policy contexts, concepts and principles of integrated management, a framework for operations, management bodies, and a planning process.
