"The Census of 1880-81, the second since the passing of the British North America Act, has been made under authority of the " Census Act" assented to on the 15th May, 1879, (42 Victoria, cap. XXI.) There will be an introduction and an index to each volume of this Report. The information regarding Population and Property is a statement of facts existing on the fourth day of April, 1881. The information relating to the Census year itself, is for the twelve months dating from the 4th April, 1880"--Introd., v. 1.
