"This is the first issue in a series of standard table(s) on the demographic aspects of births and fertility in Canada. It is based on information for data years 1987 and 1988, for Canada, the ten provinces and the two territories. The statistical tables in this document mainly relate to: the numbers and rates of live births and still births of at least twenty weeks gestation; total fertility rates, general fertility rates and age specific fertility rates; live births by age of mother and order of live birth; male and female birth weights by age of mother and gestation period at the time of birth and; live births by census division and counties in the province(s) ... Information on births and the related demographic information for each of the data years 1975 to 1986 is contained in the annual report entitled, "Births and Deaths, Vital Statistics Volume I" Catalogue 84-204"--Methodological note, 1987/88.
