520 |a"A graphical method is described for calculating the uranium and thorium contents of ores. The intersection of straight lines, each relating to a selected interval in the gamma-ray spectrum, makes possible a rapid estimate of the respective contribution of each series (uranium and thorium) to the total gamma activity. The departure from equilibrium in the uranium series and the effect of potassium are both considered. Spectrum curves were plotted for crushed ore samples. Count yields in a number of selected spectral intervals are given for natural uranium, natural thorium, purified uranium oxide (less radium and daughters), and potassium, to illustrate the construction of the linear equations. Typical solutions are shown for several types of ore samples"--Synopsis, p. i.
