520 |a"This study attempts to derive estimates, of the sensible heat transfer between lake ice and water based on directly observed or easily modelled primary variables, namely the speed and temperature of the water one metre below the ice cover from field data collected from 1983 to 1985 in the headwater lakes of the Yukon River Basin. This quantity is required for studies on the thermal simulation of northern lakes and reservoirs. The estimation of the extent and location of open water areas in an ice sheet is important for the operation of intakes for hydroelectric power generation, for the evaluation of suitable overwintering habitat for waterfowl and the possible disruption of migratory routes for game"--Management perspective.
