"In recognition of a growing need to address the issue of restoration of and compensation for environmental damages incurred as a result of pollution incidents, Environment Canada has undertaken an initiative to develop and implement a national approach to environmental damages assessment and restoration. In the Atlantic Region, the department hosted a Workshop with key stakeholders as an initial attempt to promote dialogue on the subject. The Workshop was designed to encourage meaningful discussion on the development of a practical implementation strategy for an Environmental Damages Assessment / Restoration Process for the region"--Executive Summary, page 2.
