Summary of comparative fishing data collected in Newfoundland and Labrador from 2021-2022 / Laura Wheeland, Katherine Skanes, and Samantha Trueman.: Fs97-6/3579E-PDF
"Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) has acquired two new offshore research vessels on the east coast of Canada: the Canadian Coast Guard Ship (CCGS) Capt Jacques Cartier and the CCGS John Cabot. These research vessels (RVs) will be conducting DFO surveys off the coast of Newfoundland & Labrador (NL) in the coming years. In order to ensure continuation of the time series used for single species and ecosystem indices, and other metrics used when providing advice, comparative fishing is necessary between these new vessels and those previously used for these surveys (CCGS Teleost and CCGS Alfred Needler). Paired fishing facilitates analyses to determine any major catchability differences (by species, size, etc.) between the old and new vessels. Comparative fishing took place in the fall of 2021 and 2022, and in the spring of 2022. This document provides a review of paired sets completed during these seasons"--Abstract, page iv.
