"The twelve environmental issues selected for this report are all of importance to Canada's environmental, social and economic health. To a degree, the status and trends they display together provide an assessment of the progress that has been made in improving the quality of the four environmental components — water, land, wildlife and air — and the problems which remain. Included within each issue discussion are a) a definition of the problem, b) trend information, c) examples of steps which have been or could be taken to deal with the situation and d) a short list of additional readings"--page 4.
