Juvenile Pacific salmon survey in the Strait of Georgia and associated waters, July 5 to 14, 2016 (SOG survey 2016-12) / by Chrys-Ellen M. Neville.Fs97-13/1400E-PDF

"A trawl survey to examine the distribution, abundance and ecology of juvenile Pacific salmon (Oncorhynchus spp.) in the Strait of Georgia and associated waters was conducted July 4-15, 2016. In July 2016, the survey was conducted later than most other summer surveys due to a mechanical failure of the Canadian Coast Guard vessel W.E. Ricker about a week before the scheduled survey date. A commercial trawl vessel was chartered and conducted the survey with a start date in early July, about two weeks after the intended survey period. With the exception of the delayed start date, the standard survey was successfully conducted with the same protocols that have been conducted in June-July and September-October each year since 1998. In addition to the standard survey area, sampling was also conducted in Desolation Sound, Discovery Islands, the Gulf Islands and Puget Sound (United States). Due to chartering on short notice, there were fewer days of fishing available for these additional areas compared to other survey years. This report summarizes information collected from the 93 trawl sets and 48 oceanographic stations sampled"--Abstract, page ix.
