Harms caused by illegal sexually explicit material online : report of the Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage / Hon. Hedy Fry, chair.: XC61-1/1-441-14E-PDF
"Social media platforms have facilitated connectivity and communication on a global scale. At the same time, they have enabled the spread of a wide range of harmful and illegal content, including child sexual abuse material (CSAM) and the non-consensual distribution of intimate images (NCDII). More recently, the rise of generative artificial intelligence (AI) has enabled the creation and distribution of sexually explicit deepfakes—images, audio, and video digitally altered or fully generated by AI—that include CSAM and non-consensual intimate images. The circulation of and ease of access to illegal, sexually explicit material can cause direct and grievous harm to victims"--Context of the study, pages 3-4.
