"One example of a Canada's Species at Risk Act (SARA)-listed species that lacks a current population abundance estimate is Silver Shiner (Notropis photogenis; Threatened). Silver Shiner is a freshwater fish species that occupies pools and runs of riverine systems and feeds on aquatic and terrestrial invertebrates. There are five known populations in Canada, all located in southern Ontario. ... Here, we sought to generate new population abundance estimates for the Sixteen Mile Creek population based on data collected in 2022 and 2023. The results of this work will inform future conservation status assessments, listing considerations, permitting decisions, and recovery actions"--Introduction, page 1.
