Quartz provenance in the Mesozoic of the eastern Scotian Basin / C.E. Sales de Oliveira, Y. Zhang, G. Pe-Piper, D.J.W. Piper, and R. Corney.: M183-2/7894E-PDF
"This study forms part of a joint project between the Geological Survey of Canada and Saint Mary’s University to evaluate an integrated approach of scanning electron microscope - backscattered electron (SEM-BSE) imaging, SEM - cathodoluminescense (SEM-CL) imaging, hot-cathode cathodoluminescense (HCL) imaging, and optical microscopic petrography on detrital quartz grains for provenance study in the eastern Scotian Basin. This report documents microscopic, SEM-BSE, SEM-CL and HCL images of selected quartz grains from sandstones in the Bandol-1 well. Different types of detrital quartz grains have been identified in this study: plutonic quartz, very-low-grade- to low-grade- metamorphic quartz (with brittle deformation), low-medium-grade- metamorphic quartz (with/without ductile deformation) and medium-highgrade- metamorphic quartz"--Preface, page 3.
