"A telephone survey was conducted of participants that were active in the southern Gulf of St. Lawrence groundfish fishery in 1997. Of the 328 vessel owners from the southern Gulf that were identified from purchase slips as having sold groundfish in 1997, 172 were successfully interviewed. The survey employed a questionnaire to obtain the views and opinions of fishers concerning stock abundance, environmental conditions, the impact of seals, dogfish, markets, fishery management actions, etc., for inclusion in stock assessments.
