520 |a"An objective of this study was to define spatio-temporal subdomains based on sea surface temperature (SST) variability that might be associated with marine survival of sockeye salmon and to develop annual indices of variability for each subdomain. The study focused on the continental shelf (< 500 m depth) from the Columbia River to Kodiak Island. Empirical orthogonal analysis of weekly SST anomalies on a ¼° by ¼° latitude-longitude grid found that anomalies were positively correlated across the entire region of interest so there was little incentive to subdivide it into subdomains based on SST anomalies alone"--Abstract, page v.
