A coded wire tag assessment of Salmon River (Langley) coho salmon : 1993 tag application and 1994-1995 spawner enumeration / by M.K. Farwell, R.E. Diewert, L.W. Kalnin, R. Semple, L.C. Walthers, and J.R....Fs97-4/2523E-PDF

"In the spring of 1993, an estimated 15,611 (corrected for 7.0% long-term tag loss) coho smolts were released with coded wire tags at an average size of 96.9 mm and 8.7 g. The adult escapement was estimated in fall and winter of 1994-1995 using the Petersen mark-recapture method. Escapement was estimated at 1,941 coho adults of which 523 had coded wire tags and 40 had lost the coded wire tag. Smolt to adult survival was -9.7% and the fishery exploitation (i.e. catch and escapement) was -66%. Escapement progressively declined over the 1987-1992, from 11,947 in 1987 to 2,604 in 1992. In 1993, escapement increased to 5,913; however, the 1994 escapement declined to 1,941 and is the lowest in the 8-year period of record"--Abstract, page ix.
