A coded wire tag assessment of Salmon River (Langley) coho salmon : 1994 tag application and 1995-1996 spawner enumeration / by M.K. Farwell, R.E. Diewert, L.W. Kalnin, J.R. Irvine, R. Semple, and L.C....: Fs97-4/2524E-PDF
"In the spring of 1994, an estimated 35,256 (corrected for 5.3% long term tag loss) coho smolts were released with coded wire tags at an average size of 90.0 mm and 7.6 g. The adult escapement in fall and winter of 1995-1996 was estimated using the Petersen mark-recapture method. Escapement was estimated at 4,214 coho adults of which 1,248 had coded wire tags and 70 had lost the coded wire tag. Smolt to adult escapement survival averaged 6.6%. Exploitation rate on CWT coho averaged 46.3%. Escapement progressively declined during 1987-1992, from 11,947 in 1987 to 2,604 in 1992. In 1993, escapement increased to 5,913; however, in 1994 escapement declined to 1,941. The 1995-96 escapement increased to 4,214 adult coho, well below the study period average of 6,156"--Abstract, page ix.
