"Fishery updates present catch and effort data and identifies fisheries management and stock assessment issues in the many invertebrate fisheries on the Pacific coast of Canada. These papers often form the basis for requests for stock assessment advice. There are more than 25 species of invertebrates exploited commercially and in 1997 the reported landings were 24,759 tonnes, a reduction from 1996 primarily due to development of Shrimp Management Areas (SMA's) quotas within the shrimp trawl fishery and quota reductions in the red sea urchin fishery. The landed value of invertebrates slightly decreased to approximately $121 million. The report has been organised by sections on molluscs, echinoderms and crustaceans.
