"This is the third report describing the results of the sablefish (Anoplopoma fimbria) tagging program. The first two reports summarized results of tagging studies conducted during 1977 and tagging and exploratory trapping studies conducted during 1978 (Beamish et al. 1978, 1979). This report describes the number and location of sablefish tagged in 1979 and summarizes recovery information to December 31, 1979. It is our intention to publish these reports for each year that fish are tagged. The report also contains results of the second exploratory trapping study; preliminary results of studies designed to validate the method of age determinations; preliminary results of age and growth studies based on tagging and age determinations; and some observations on growth and mortality of juvenile and adult sablefish that were kept in a large tank as a control for the tagging and oxytetracycline injection studies. …"--Introduction, page [1].
