"This working paper is based on the premise that major forces will influence both the demand and supply sides of the housing market to the end of the century and that it is possible to identify many of these forces and their implications. Using this knowledge, housing market participants can make more informed and lasting decisions. ... This working paper examines the major factors shaping the single-family homebuilding and residential renovation sectors of the housing industry through the late 1980s and the 1990s. The ways in which construction technology and the structure of the industry are likely to respond to the changing environment are explored"--p. 1.
