“There is a small commercial hunt for grey seals in the Gulf of St. Lawrence and along the coast of Nova Scotia. The Canadian Northwest Atlantic grey seal population has been increasing since the 1960s. The interaction between a growing grey seal population and fish stocks on the Atlantic Coast has become an issue of considerable interest. Resource Management requested advice on the status of the overall population, harvest scenarios that meet ASM, and risk associated with different levels of harvesting.
