"This workshop was held to examine economic and social issues related to the state of Canadian infrastructure, its expansion, maintenance and renovation. The first day of the workshop assessed the current infrastructure situation in Canada and then, discussed and assessed alternative approaches aimed by reducing the cost of infrastructure through technical innovations and alternative planning approaches. The second day began by focussing on the implications of various means of financing urban infrastructure and then moved on to an examination of the role of infrastructure in the economy and its relationship to international competitiveness"--Foreword, p. i.
