"Each July, Statistics Canada, through the Canadian Centre for Justice Statistics (CCJS), releases its annual report on police-reported crime in Canada. This report presents information on the short and long-term trends in overall, violent and non-violent crime at the national, provincial/territorial and census metropolitan area levels. For the first time, this report includes information on both the volume and the severity of police-reported crime in Canada. The new police-reported Crime Severity Index (PRCSI) was introduced in the spring of 2009 to enable Canadians to track changes in the severity of police-reported crime from year to year"--Page 6.
