"The CSS/CCGS Hudson was the primary Canadian offshore oceanographic research vessel at the Bedford Institute of Oceanography (BIO) for fifty-nine years until she was retired in 2022. She was designed to be capable of working in all the world’s oceans throughout the year with a specific focus on the North Atlantic and adjacent ice-invested arctic waters. Hudson was able to comfortably accommodate a large and diverse scientific contingent and conduct oceanographic research programs in the open ocean under most weather conditions. Hudson’s significant endurance enabled her to travel far and stay at sea for extended periods. From 1963 to 2022 she conducted 495 scientific cruises in the North Atlantic, South Atlantic, Pacific and Arctic Oceans. A description of the vessel is provided followed by year-by-year brief summaries of each individual cruise including details such as area of operation, scientific objectives, equipment used, ports visited and any interesting observations and events.
