Report on field samples and data collected by the Aquaculture Monitoring Program in Maritimes Region, 2024 / by Jackson W.F. Chu, Steven Neil, David Wong, Lisa Johnson, Lauren Jonah, Claire Goodwin, Dounia... : Fs97-13/1488E-PDF
"The Aquaculture Monitoring Program (AMP) is a national Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) program initiated in 2017 to detect and quantify chemical and biological parameters in far-field areas neighboring aquaculture finfish and shellfish sites in Canada and to track changes in these parameters over the long-term. This report outlines sampling methods, design, and data resulting from field surveys of finfish aquaculture sites done by DFO's Maritimes region in 2024. During these trips, AMP sampling protocols were used to survey three sites: AMP site F09 in May, site F04 in July, and site F10 in August. Surveys followed the two-dimensional, distance-stratified grid of sampling stations as standardized for AMP finfish site surveys. Across all surveys, 119 stations were sampled for sediment grain size, drugs, pesticides, antibiotics, trace metals, and total organic content. Total dissolved sulfides in sediment porewater were also measured in all stations using three methods (ISE, UV, and methylene blue). Thirty sediment grabs were collected each at site F04 and F10 (60 total) for characterization of benthic macrofauna communities in July and August respectively. Additional sampling that AMP facilitated in support of external collaborative research projects are also briefly described"--Abstract, page vi.
