"Freshwater - found in rivers, lakes, underground sources, ice, and snow - is vital for sustaining life. It supports ecosystems, allows for sanitation, makes agriculture possible, is critical for many industries and is, therefore, crucial to us all. However, clean and accessible freshwater can be taken for granted despite its essential nature. In undertaking a study of freshwater, the Committee recognized the opportunity and responsibility to reflect the voices of a variety of stakeholders, in order to help guide Canada's future freshwater governance"--Introduction, page 17.
