"This report presents the results of preliminary research focused on the St. Georges Bay Ecosystem, located along Nova Scotia's Northumberland Strait, in the Southern Gulf of St. Lawrence. It provides information on the geology, water quality, biology, natural history, human settlement and human use of the Antigonish, Pomquet, Tracadie, Margaree and Mabou estuaries and the coastal zone area between Pleasant Bay and Lismore, Nova Scotia. Coastal, estuarine and river fisheries, contemporary land use practices and patterns associated with the coastal zone are discussed and knowledge gaps are identified. The report serves as an inventory of resources and activities of the study area was prepared, in part, to assist in the development of an integrated approach to coastal zone management"--Abstract, page viii.
