"A survey of red sea urchin populations in the Becher Bay area of Southern Vancouver Island, parts of Pacific Fishery Management (PFM) Area 20, was conducted in November 2001. A total of 30 randomly placed transects were surveyed by SCUBA divers. Estimated mean density was 0.33 urchins per m². Estimated mean biomass was 194.6 g/m². Overall, 1.4% of the total number of urchins measured were ≤50 mm test diameter (TD), whereas 82.7% were of legal size (≥90 mm TD) for the commercial fishery"--Abstract, page iii.
