Model equations for groundfish stock assessments in British Columbia using stock synthesis 3 / Rowan Haigh, Paul J. Starr, Nick Fisch, Andrew M. Edwards. : Fs97-6/3806E-PDF

"Starting in 2021, the Offshore Rockfish Program in the Groundfish Section of the Stock Assessment and Research Division at the Pacific Biological Station (PBS) in Nanaimo, British Columbia, started using the Stock Synthesis 3 (SS3) population model platform for fisheries stock assessments on Canada’s Pacific coast. Prior to SS3, the Program had used Awatea, a model variant of Coleraine. The switch was made because SS3 offered more features and choices than those available in Awatea, and because support for the Coleraine variant had ended. Following the adoption of SS3 by other programs at PBS, it was considered expedient to transfer the model details to a Technical Report that could be cited by all users of SS3 at PBS. This report documents the SS3 platform as a transition from the Awatea platform, and describes the model structure, data inputs, and model fitting procedures in terms familiar to already-established conventions"--Abstract, page v.
