"Salmon stock identification and ageing are required to estimate fishery impacts, determine stock status, forecast abundances, and inform enhancement and habitat actions across Pacific Region. The marking and sampling programs that yield these data thus enable Fisheries and Oceans Canada to sustainably manage salmon populations and to meet its Pacific Salmon Treaty commitments. Under evolving management priorities and fiscal constraints, it is pivotal that scientific advice is generated efficiently and at relevant scales.
