"A workshop was convened to develop hypotheses and models that might explain fluctuations in the time series of abundance of various species in the area of Hecate Strait. The conceptual basis for two models was synthesized. In one model, Pacific cod and Pacific herring time trends were approached as though they might be explained by the feeding of cod on herring and other species. In a second model, the trends were approached as though they might be explained by physical oceanographic phenomena"--Abstract, page iii.
