Preliminary analysis of British Columbia commercial landing statistics for 1979 to 1984 inclusive : a multispecies approach / by D. Noakes and G.S. Jamieson. : Fs97-4/1882E-PDF
"Historical sales slip data are used to document temporal changes in fleets of fishing vessels exploiting various commercial marine fish species. There was a decline in the total number of fishing vessels participating in the industry and a gradual shift from generalists to specialists. Except for the salmon fleet, there was a significant annual turnover rate in vessels harvesting the various species. Landed values for groundfish and shellfish species have increased since 1979 while the landed value of salmon, herring and halibut have remained at or below the 1979 reference year level. The purpose of this report is to document the existence and nature of multispecies fishing by fishermen exploiting different species, and to outline the rationale for addressing multispecies exploitation"--Abstract, page iv.
