Seismic velocity modelling, fixed point optimization, and evaluation of positioning uncertainty in the central Labrador Sea region : methods, a software tool, and an application / [by] Q. Li ... [et al.].: M183-2/7665E-PDF

This report describes part of our work in the central Labrador Sea region for the United Nation Convention for the Law Of the Sea (UNCLOS). A velocity function is used in fitting velocity samples and its confidence level is estimated using the boot-strapping method. The Newton-Raphson method is used in the conversion of two-way time to sediment thickness. We generate a QLine which indicates whether a common depth point satisfies the criteria required to be a fixed point for optimized fixed point definition. Errors from multiple sources are integrated into net positioning uncertainty. Multiple sources of velocity samples in the central Labrador Sea are compiled and used in constructing the velocity model and estimating its uncertainty for fixed point optimizing and net positioning uncertainty evaluation. A software tool is developed and documented to facilitate these processing and visualization procedures with characteristics of interactive graphic user interface and batch processing or visualization functions.
