Report of the eighth census of Canada, 1941. Vol. 1 contains a general interpretation of the results of the 1941 census. The volume is divided into two parts: the first part is a descriptive review of the various subjects of the Population, Housing, Agriculture and Merchandising and Service Establishments Censuses of 1941, while the second part consists of historical and summary tables, in the main supplementing the analytical tables of part one. Vol. 2 sets forth the total population enumerated as of date June 2, 1941, down to the smallest geographical areas, but without cross-classification or analysis of any kind except by sex and by rural and urban. Vol. 3 classifies the population by age to show sex, conjugal condition, racial origin, religious denomination, birthplace, length of residence in province, place of last residence, period of immigration and naturalization, citizenship, official language and mother tongue, school attendance and years of schooling, for provinces, rural and urban, for individual cities of 30,000 population and over, and generally, for the metropolitan areas of Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver and Winnipeg). Vol. 4 classifies the population by (a) racial origin and (b) birthplace according to sex, age, conjugal condition, religious denomination, place of last permanent residence, period of immigration and naturalization, citizenship, official language, mother tongue, and age at first marriage of women ever married. In addition the volume contains tables on inter-provincial migration and the census of the blind and deaf-mutes. Vol. 5 presents the results of the population census dealing with dwellings, household and families. Vol. 6 contains statistics on earnings and employment of wage-earners covering the 12 months prior to the census date, for Canada, the provinces, counties and census divisions and for urban centres of 1,000 population and over. It also contains statistics on unemployment. Vol. 7 contains statistics of the gainfully occupied, arranged in two divisions: the first of occupation tables and the second of industry tables. Vol. 8 presents the final results of the census of agriculture and contains data relation to occupied and abandoned farms, such as area, value, tenure, size of holdings, production and value of various crops, number and value of live stock, certain farm expenditures, indebtedness, etc. Vol. 9 contains statistics on housing in Canada, from the first housing census conducted in the Dominion. Vol. 10 contains statistics on retail distribution for the Dominion as a whole, for each of the nine provinces, for counties or census divisions, and for each city, town or incorporated village of 1,000 population or more. Vol. 11 is the second of two volumes containing the census of merchandising and service establishments. It presents the complete results of the census relating to wholesale trade, service establishments, hotels, and sales finance companies.
